어젯밤엔 좋았어요

Translation: Last night was good/great.

My friend hit me with thus question this morning. One thing that’s simultaneously frustrating/exciting about learning a new language is forcing your mind to twist your wanted answers into the appropriate shape.

I wanted to say, “Last night was good. My writing was understandable, so I was happy.” Only I don’t know how to say “My writing was understandable.” While I’m sure I could’ve posted my first attempt “어젯밤에 좋았어요. 제 쓰기를 이해해서 좋아했어요,” and it would’ve been readable, it wouldn’t have been good enough.

So you have ti stop and think, “What’s missing?” Lots, as “my writing was understandable” implies that your target knows who you’re referring to. So a quick edit to add the sentence’s recipients int9 the equation (“…다른 사람들이 제 쓰기를 이해…”) seems to have done the trick.

Changing the sentence from “I could understand my writing so I was happy” to “Other people could understand my writing, so I was happy.”
